Faculty and Staff Life 

  • Well-Being Days – Staff may now use up to two sick days per year for personal well-being. Previously such time could only be used for illness, injury or to care for a family member. This change allows for more flexibility in how staff use their accrued sick leave. You can request a Well-Being absence by submitting a leave request through myUK. The type of leave would be TDL well-being. Click here to read more about this and other exciting program enhancements.
  • Online W-2 Now Available – Your 2019 W-2 tax form is now available online. Please note that employees that have more than one page, due to paying multiple tax authorities, (ex. school tax) will need to click the ‘Next Form’ button in order to access the next page.
  • Barnhart Fund for Excellence – The dean's office is now accepting proposals for the FY 2021 Barnhart Fund for Excellence. Eligible projects will take place between July 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021. The deadline for submissions is March 2. The application form and more information are available here.

Job Openings

  • Administrative Services Assistant Sr. (Dietetics and Human Nutrition). The position will be responsible for fiscal management, personnel administration, grant management and management of the daily administration of multidisciplinary department including the areas of teaching, research and extension.   • March 4 – CAFE Blood Drive, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., E.S. Good Barn. Please join us for the March 4 blood drive at the E.S. Good Barn. All donors will receive a limited addition T-shirt for supporting this great cause! To schedule a donation time, click here. Walk-ins are welcome!
  • March 4 – Little Sprouts, Animal Habitats in the Garden, session 1, 10-10:45 a.m.; session 2, 11-11:45 a.m., The Arboretum. We will begin with a story and hands-on exploration. Next, we will rotate through crafts, science experiments and planting stations. Last, we get outside and explore nature on a short hike, weather permitting.   • March 4 – Internationalization at UK and Global Trend: First in Global Engagement Academy Series, 3:30-5 p.m., 375 Gatton Student Center. This event is a modular professional development program any faculty or staff member to take for the purpose of understanding UK as a global institution, working effectively across cultures, implementing policies and best practices regarding international engagement and identifying and accessing university resources for international engagement. Earn a Certificate of Completion by successfully taking three Foundation Courses (each one two hours in length) and three Elective Courses over a three-year period. Click here to learn more.
  • March 5-8 – BAE Lawn Mower Clinic, Thursday/Friday: 4:30pm-9:00pm Saturday: 9:00am-9:00pm, Sunday: 9:00am-12:00pm, 411 Stadium View Drive. The UK BAE Student Branch will host their annual Lawn Mower Clinic fundraiser. Cost will be $45 for cleaning, blade sharpening and oil change, and an additional $5 will be charged if you want/need a new spark plug. This year, the fundraiser will be limited to the first 100 mowers, so be sure to sign up early! Please use one form for each mower that you want to have serviced this year. Click here to register.
  • March 7 – Winter Tree ID, 1-3 p.m., The Arboretum. Winter tree identification can seem daunting, but you may be surprised to learn that winter is a great time to identify trees! Many tree characteristics become more apparent when the leaves are gone, like bark and branching patterns. Join Curator Emily Ellingson to learn skills for identifying common Kentucky trees in the winter. Click here to learn more.
  • March 9-11 – STARR (Self-Defense Tactics and Risk Reduction), 6-9 p.m., Gatton Student Center, STARR is designed for women and members of the LGBTQ* community to decrease the risk of becoming victims. The program includes classroom and hands-on, self-defense training, concluding with a simulated attack. Participants are taught to assert themselves physically and verbally by yelling commands with every strike to a padded instructor. The STARR class is comprised of three-hour classes for three consecutive days (March 9-11). There is no fee for the class. Registration is required. Click here to learn more.

Learn from student-athletes and their academic coach Rodney Lumpkins about how to equip, empower and engage student-athletes for holistic success; on and off the field.   • March 23 – 2020 Kentucky Water Resources Annual Symposium, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Marriott Griffin Gate Resort, Lexington. The 2020 Kentucky Water Resources Annual Symposium will be Monday, March 23 at the Marriott Griffin Gate Resort in Lexington. This daylong symposium combines platform and poster presentations that allow attendees to hear the latest in water resource-related research. Registration is now open. Learn more and register here.

  • April 2 – University of Kentucky Citizen Police Academy, 6-8 p.m. Pulling back the curtain of mystery that often surrounds law enforcement, the Citizens Police Academy provides insight into the daily functions and responsibilities of the UK Police Department. It is part of an ongoing effort by UKPD to foster cohesive relationships between law enforcement and the community. The class series is held from 6-8 p.m. every Thursday from April 2 through graduation on June 4. Registration is open to anyone 18 years or older; background check required.   • April 4 – Celebrating the Seasons: Spectacular Spring in the Kentucky Children's Garden, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., The Kentucky Children's Garden at The Arboretum. Celebrating the Seasons at The Kentucky Children's Garden. Spectacular Spring - face painting, spring flower giveaway, seasonal crafts and hands-on activities.   • April 18 – Arbor Day Celebration at The Arboretum, 1-5 p.m., The Arboretum, State Botanical Garden of Kentucky. Arbor Day Proclamation and  Opening Ceremony at 1 p.m. Exhibitor Tents & Kentucky Children’s Garden open immediately following the ceremony (approximately 1:30 p.m.)  Parking for exhibitors and  sponsors at The Arboretum; parking & free transportation for all others available from Kroger Field.   • April 22 – Color Me Glam Fashion Show, 6 p.m., Gatton Student Center Ballroom. Join us for an evening of fashion! The night begins with a fabulous cocktail hour that includes hearty hors d'oeuvres as well as a cash bar. We invite you to peruse our silent auction over cocktail hour. There will be more than 75 items to bid on! Once the lights go down and the show starts, enjoy the best of Lexington fashion set to a Fashion Week-worthy setlist.   • April 24 – 9th Annual Jr. MANRRS Leadership Institute - Call for Presenters. For the 9th Annual Jr. MANRRS Leadership Institute, interactive workshop proposals are being sought to expose potential students to opportunities in agriculture and STEAM, to develop personally, and to continue their preparation for future educational endeavors and careers. Submissions that focus on topics related to UK CAFE majors, leadership, personal development and resulting careers are welcomed.
