Postdoctoral Scholars
Postdoctoral scholar appointments are governed by AR 5:1.
Domestic Postdoctoral Scholars
The Postdoctoral Enrollment Form from the Graduate School should be used for creating postdoctoral scholar appointments. Postdoctoral scholars must have a completed Ph.D. and may not have held postdoctoral scholar appointments for more than 5 years. Dr. Joseph Lutz is the Director of Postdoctoral Affairs for UK and can answer questions related to postdoctoral scholar appointments. More information including materials required for making offers and appointments can be found here. More comprehensive information can be found at the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs in the Graduate School.
There is a Society of Postdoctoral Scholars at UK that may help with additional information about postdoctoral scholarship.
International Postdoctoral Scholars
In order to process visa applications through iCATS, offer letters for international postdoctoral scholars must be signed by the inviting faculty member, department chair, dean, and Director of Postdoctoral Affairs. This may happen before or after the offer is signed by the postdoctoral scholar, but must occur before the visa application is submitted through iCATS. Offer letters may be routed to the Office of Faculty Resources, Planning and Assessment at cafe-frpa@uky.edu to coordinate getting the Dean's and Director of Postdoctoral Affairs' signatures. Once the visa is approved, the hiring process may continue as it would for a domestic scholar, including submitting the Postdoctoral Enrollment Form.
