Student Agronomy Day at UK

Student Agronomy Day at UK

Year: 2018
Project Leader: Rebecca von Groot, Elisa D'Angelo, and Ben Goff
Department/Program: Department of Plant and Soil Sciences
Funding: $600

The funds requested for this project are to have a field day for local schools at one of the UK farms to introduce agronomy to potential students and demonstrate all of the potential career paths this major may provide.  Emphasis will be on high school students, but may be expanded to middle and elementary schools if the capacity of the field day allows for it. Speakers at this field day will include UK faculty/staff, various members of industry in the agronomic sector, and local producers who are alumni of the HPLS major. Each speaker will have a hands-on demonstration that relates to and exemplifies and the importance of their career. In addition, students will have the opportunity to meet with academic coordinators/advisors for the HPLS major, as well as representatives from any other CAFE majors whom are interested in attending the field day, in order to provide students the opportunity to discuss how UK curriculums differ from other schools they are considering.
